Free Parenting Plan Builder

Make a parenting plan or custody agreement in about 15 minutes. Pick a schedule, see each parent's overnight percentage, set holidays, decisions, exchanges and expenses, then download a PDF you can both sign.

Not legal advice. Parenting plan rules vary by state, and some courts require their own form. If yours does, use this as a worksheet or attach it, and have an attorney or mediator review it before you sign.

What goes in a parenting plan

Most courts expect the same core sections: the regular parenting schedule, holidays and school breaks, who makes major decisions, how exchanges work, how parents communicate, how shared expenses are split, travel and relocation rules, and how disagreements get resolved. The builder walks through each one in that order.

Want the section-by-section explanation first? Read the parenting plan template guide, compare custody schedules, or see clause language for attorneys and mediators.

Frequently asked questions

Is this parenting plan builder really free?

Yes. You can build the whole plan and download the PDF without an account, an email address, or a credit card. Two Paths makes money from its co-parenting app, not from this tool.

Is my information saved or sent anywhere?

No. Everything you type stays in your own browser so you can come back to your draft on the same device. Your answers are never sent to Two Paths. Like the rest of the site, the page counts anonymous usage (for example, that a PDF was downloaded) to see whether the tool is useful.

Will a court accept this parenting plan?

It depends on your state and county. Many courts accept a written agreement signed by both parents, but some require their own official form. If yours does, use this plan as a worksheet to fill in that form, or attach it. Have a family law attorney or mediator review any plan before you sign or file it. This tool is not legal advice.

What is the difference between a parenting plan and a custody agreement?

They usually mean the same thing: a written agreement that sets the parenting schedule, holidays, decision-making, communication and expenses. Some states call it a parenting plan, others a custody agreement, parenting agreement, or allocation of parental responsibilities.

How is the overnight percentage calculated?

The builder counts who has the children each night over a full year of your repeating schedule, before holidays and breaks. Many states use overnight counts in child support formulas, so check how your state counts parenting time.

Can I make a temporary custody agreement with this?

Yes. Build the plan as usual and add the end date or review date under additional terms, for example "This temporary plan applies until June 1 or until a court order replaces it."

Which custody schedules can I choose?

Week on, week off; 2-2-3; 2-2-5-5 (5-2-2-5); about 60/40; every other extended weekend; every other weekend; or your own two-week pattern. You can tap any night to customize it.
